Stale Will Fail

Stale - not fresh; kept too long; tasteless; having lost originality.

Being stale will bring you to a place where you get cold in your spirit. Any little thing will offend you. Any little thing can keep you from getting close to God, from doing His work. You’ll produce nothing but excuses.

The body of Christ needs to be filled up, refreshed, and renewed! For our community, for our families, we need to be full with the Spirit.

Stale Will Fail

“After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.”
‭‭John‬ ‭21:1-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Stale, Stagnant, Sterile

These words should never describe God’s people. The worst thing that can happen is for us to become stagnant and stale. In the above passage, the disciples had gotten a little lost as to what they should do and they decided just to go fishing. And after a night of fishing, they had produced nothing.

Being stale will bring you to a place where you get cold in your spirit. Any little thing will offend you. Any little thing can keep you from getting close to God, from doing His work. You’ll produce nothing but excuses.

Refreshing, Revival, Replenishing

These are three things that will reverse the effects of being stale, stagnant, and sterile. We all go through times when we get in a bit of a “Christian funk,” where we’re not getting anything done.

Stale - not fresh; kept too long; tasteless; having lost originality.

Stale bread - no one wants to eat it. Bread is not meant to be kept, it’s meant to be eaten. If you can’t eat it all, share it!

We, as God’s people, are called to serve God’s bread. Jesus has identified Himself as the bread of life. You don’t have to look for drugs or sex or some other sinful thing to satisfy you because your soul is satisfied in the Bread of Life.

Nobody wants your old traditions. Nobody wants your dead religious traditions. They want something that satisfies the soul! We aren’t put here to make doctrines, we’re here to add flavor to life. What is the original purpose of bread? To feed the hungry. What is the original purpose of the church? It’s not to have church, it’s to proclaim victory to the captive!

Refreshing - to renew;

Where does refreshing come from? From spending time with God. Being in prayer, being in the Word, being part of the body is what refreshes you.

“that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:22-24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Sometimes we just need an attitude adjustment, a refreshing. No one likes to be in a bad attitude.

Stagnant - not flowing; motionless; dull; impure

If you are going on a float trip, you want to be on a moving river, not stagnant water… if the river is still, then you’re paddling and paddling. When you get stagnant, you end up trusting in and operating in your own strength.

A dull church repels rather than compels. Jesus calls us out into the hedges and the highways and byways to compel people to come in. No one had confidence in the Pharisees because they were just operating in the law, they weren’t moving.

Stagnant water is impure. If you drink from a pool of water that is stagnant, you will get something bad inside of you. A stagnant church breeds bacteria, too: gossip, backbiting, complaint, etc.

Revival - to come back to life; to resuscitate

“Restore us, O God of our salvation, And cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭85:4-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If we don’t deal with our sin, it begins to affect the work of our life, it dulls us and renders us ineffective. It also steals our joy. Revival clears the obstructions and allows the Holy Spirit to move and restore our joy and our effectiveness.

“Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.””
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If the darkness of the world is bothering you, get into the light. When you’re in the light, the darkness doesn’t bother you. We need some CPR - Christian Praise Revival.

Jesus promised that, once He had restored a soul, rivers of living water would pour out of that soul. Does your attitude, your conversation, compel people to come to Jesus? Are you stagnant? Are people driven to know Jesus from taking a look at your life?

Sterile - producing no fruit or seed; no increase;

Jesus requires increase from His people. Being sterile is being content with mediocrity. A sterile fruit tree, according to Jesus, needs to be cut down. There are churches that would benefit the kingdom of God by shutting their doors… if there is no growth, no salvation, then there is no life there.

God asked people to physically be fruitful and multiply - have children; Jesus sent us into the world to preach and to make disciples, to be spiritually fruitful and multiply! If we fail at this, people will perish for eternity…

We can’t measure the success of our church by the number of people in it. The measure is if there are people getting saved. Programs are nice, but having more programs isn’t a sign of success - people finding salvation is a measure of success.

Replenish - to fill up again

When you get filled up with the Spirit, you go out and you begin doing things. You can’t hold it in! We are supposed to stay full that way.

The body of Christ needs to be filled up, refreshed, and renewed! For our community, for our families, we need to be full with the Spirit.

Stale will fail, but revival will prevail. A daily revival that restores and renews you each and every day.
