Repentance, Refreshing and Restoration
Repentance is not an experience purely to make you feel bad… conviction is the feeling you have of uneasiness, a feeling of guilt. You realize that you are not right with God and you need to repair the relationship. We hate conviction! We either run from it or we run to it when it comes… but it’s the tool God uses to draw us in.
No one goes to a hospital and voluntarily request for open heart surgery… you go in when you feel bad, when something feels wrong, and then you get it taken care of. Peter says, “Repent, so that the times of refreshing may come…” Repent, turn to Jesus. You want to get the best night of sleep you’ve had in a long time? Repent!
Repentance is not about being sorry that you got caught… it’s not about the mess your life is in that you need out of. True repentance is recognition that your sin has hurt God. In order for that to be able to happen, we must have the right view of God.
Our coming to God should be in response to God’s love, not just out of fear. If our view of God is that He is pure, holy, majestic, and He always has our best interests at heart. If you know that, how can you sin against Him? Knowing He will forgive you when you sin against Him should make you not want to do it!
“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation…”
2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV
